Recently, we were asked to evaluate one of the largest cannabis cultivation facilities in Canada, specifically their cure rooms. As the cannabis industry continues to evolve, the interest in lowering dry room temperatures to new standards has become a significant topic. However, achieving this isn’t without its challenges.
The Challenge
The facility aimed to lower their room temperature below 59°F while maintaining their humidity setpoint. Fortunately, their rooms are world-class, designed with proper refrigeration equipment capable of achieving very low temperatures. The main challenge lay with the dehumidifiers.
The site was using a competitor’s dehumidifier, but issues quickly arose. The defrost cycle would initiate within 4-5 minutes of operation. During this cycle, the fan would continue to operate, causing the moisture to evaporate off the coil and re-enter the space—completely counterproductive to the goal.
Our Solution: Cannadri Dehumidifiers
We explained to the customer that Cannadri dehumidifiers are specifically designed to operate at lower temperatures, allowing for much longer run times and fewer defrost cycles. Despite some initial skepticism, the site was more than willing to try anything to achieve lower curing temperatures.
The Results
The proof is in the pudding—or, in this case, the trend log graphs. The customer was amazed by the performance of the Cannadri dehumidifiers. The data showed a significant improvement.
Graph Analysis
As you can see from the graph, the high points indicate the on cycle, and the low points indicate the off cycle. The Cannadri Can-250 was able to operate for 25-30 minutes before needing a short defrost period, whereas the competitor’s product required defrosting after just 4 minutes.
To further test the unit, we dropped the temperature to 53°F. Remarkably, the Cannadri dehumidifier maintained a 25-minute run time per cycle. This allowed for long enough run times to achieve the desired humidity setpoint without causing spikes in humidity levels.
Conclusion
The Cannadri dehumidifiers not only met but exceeded expectations. They provided consistent, long run times and stable humidity control, unlike the competitor’s product, which caused frequent humidity spikes due to constant on/off cycles.
This case study highlights the importance of using specialized equipment designed for the unique challenges of cannabis cultivation. The Cannadri dehumidifiers have proven to be a game-changer in achieving lower curing temperatures while maintaining optimal humidity levels.
